Some people are so poor all they have is money.”

Bob Marley

Joshua Clauer is a beloved man. He is fierce in what and who he loves. He is uncompromising in walking the line in today’s complex, scrappy world. He has no time for hate.

“I wrote this book so that you can be understood and can be motivated to be great. I did this by opening up my life for you, my saddest days and the best days ever.”

When the book was nearly complete, advanced-stage cancer entered Joshua’s life. His treasured family and friends have surrounded him and supported him as he fights this disease.

“Thank you all for showing your love as I fight this cancer! It is so
appreciated….I’m a rich man because of all of you!!!!”

Yes, a rich and beloved man. Well played, Joshua. Well played.

About the Authors and Artist:

Joshua William Clauer, the punter, has worked as a prison guard, a parole officer, and with returning prisoners through Madison Area Urban Ministry (dba Just Dane). He ultimately found his calling in working with pre-teen (mostly African American) boys helping them avoid gang involvement. Football has been one of the keys to helping his boys overcome the challenges they too often face. Born as “the boy with the bad heart,” Joshua has surmounted his own obstacles as well. This is his story.

Judith Gwinn Adrian, co-author. In recent years, she has written and/or co-written eight books, including In Warm Blood: Prison and Privilege, Hurt and Heart, with artist DarRen Morris. For more information, visit judithadrian.com

Inside the book, the Bears’ image painting was created by DarRen Morris, a former street hustler and gang member from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, currently incarcerated. DarRen is self-taught, which means his art is not restricted to one style or medium. His work can be seen at darrenmorrisart.com.
